Frequently Asked Questions

Which method is the best? TCM or Raw method

Both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Raw methods of placenta encapsulation offer unique benefits, and the best choice often depends on your personal preferences and wellness goals. The TCM method involves gently steaming the placenta with warming herbs like ginger, lemon & Chilli before dehydrating and encapsulating it. This process aligns with traditional postpartum care philosophies that focus on restoring warmth and balance to the body. The Raw method skips the steaming step, preserving more of the placenta’s natural hormones and nutrients, which some believe may provide a more potent energy boost. Ultimately, neither method is “better” than the other—it's about what feels right for your body and recovery. I’m happy to discuss the options with you to help you decide which approach aligns best with your postpartum needs.

I am having a C-section birth; can I still have my placenta encapsulated?

Yes, you can absolutely have your placenta encapsulated after a C-section, as long as there are no infections present, and your healthcare provider approves the release of your placenta. Many mothers who deliver via C-section choose to encapsulate their placenta to support their postpartum recovery, boost energy, and balance hormones. It's important to let your birth team know ahead of time so they can properly handle and store the placenta until it’s collected. If you have any concerns or specific medical considerations, I’m more than happy to talk them through with you.

What happens if meconium is present?

Yes, in most cases, placenta encapsulation is still possible if meconium is present. Meconium staining is relatively common and does not automatically mean the placenta is unsafe to encapsulate. During preparation—especially when using the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method—the placenta is thoroughly cleaned, steamed at a high temperature, and then dehydrated, which helps eliminate potential bacteria. If the staining is heavy or there are concerns about infection, I will assess the placenta’s condition and consult with you before proceeding. Your safety is always the top priority, and I will guide you through the best course of action based on your unique situation.

What are some reasons I can’t have my placenta encapsulated?

While many placentas are suitable for encapsulation, there are certain situations where it may not be safe or recommended. These include infections such as chorioamnionitis, uterine infections, or active bloodborne illnesses like HIV or Hepatitis B/C. If your placenta was not stored properly after birth—such as being left at room temperature for too long—it may also be deemed unsafe. In cases where the placenta has been sent to pathology and treated with chemicals, encapsulation is not advised. Your safety is my top priority, and I will always review your individual circumstances and consult with you and your healthcare provider to ensure the placenta is safe to process.

How do I know the placenta capsules I have received are mine?

Here at Mother Organic, we only process ONE placenta at a time. The rule ONE in ONE out. Although there are cases that I have multiple placentas in my possession due to multiple mums birthing. Every container is labeled 3 times to ensure it is checked. Then checked against paperwork.

I have smoked during my pregnancy; can I still have my placenta encapsulated?

If you have smoked during pregnancy—whether it’s cigarettes, vaping, or other substances—it is generally not recommended to encapsulate your placenta. This is because harmful toxins and chemicals from smoking can accumulate in the placenta, which acts as a filter between you and your baby. Encapsulating and consuming a placenta exposed to these substances may reintroduce toxins into your body during a time when healing and hormone balance are especially important. For your safety and wellbeing, placenta encapsulation is best suited to pregnancies free from tobacco or other harmful substance exposure.

I have tested positive to Group B Strep, does that affect my placenta encapsulation?

No, it doesn’t! You can safely have your placenta encapsulated.

How many capsules will I receive from my placenta?

Thats a tricky question. You can receive anywhere between 60 - 250 capsules. Every single placenta will yield a different quantity.

When choosing TCM method, due to the steaming process the placenta will shrink quiet a lot so keep in mind this will result in lesser number of capsules. There may be less but don’t worry they are still mighty in power.
